Description

This project involved a mixed use development comprising a pair of 41 and 32-storey towers. The Squire and Partners-designed scheme has a gross development value of around £400m and will comprise 291 flats, shops, restaurants, a digital cinema, a hotel with sky bar open to the public, offices, a dental surgery and children’s play space. The development will form the gateway to the wider VNEB Opportunity Area at this prominent location and the assessment work and negotiations carried out have been extremely specific to the needs and aspirations of the wider Opportunity Area. The location of the site within the Vauxhall Gyratory raised many challenges in relation to traffic and transport and while all traffic and transport issues were agreed with the strategic highway authority (TfL) the application was refused following an appeal against non-determination. A public inquiry was held in March 2012 and the proposals were approved by Secretary of State in August 2012.
